The Rutherglen Wine Region produces some of the
finest wines that Australia has to offer, and is widely regarded as the premiere fortified wine producing area in Australia. It is also one of Australia's oldest wine regions, with the first plantings occurring in the 1850's, it is now home to seventeen wineries. These wineries are located along the banks of the majestic Murray River in the North-East of Victoria.
Grapevine Getaways offers you the chance to immerse yourself in the history and tradition (not to mention the wine!) of the Rutherglen Wine Region with one of our informative winery tours. Our tours place a heavy emphasis on participation and relaxation and as such they are conducted in a friendly and informal atmosphere.
Our Rutherglen winery tours depart Albury/Wodonga, Rutherglen, Corowa and Beechworth around 9.30am daily, with all guests being collected from their accommodations. Our air-conditioned mini-bus then becomes your chariot for the day, escorting you in comfort from winery to winery, as you leave all your driving worries behind.
Our tours visit some of Rutherglen's famous wineries from old favourites to undiscovered gems. We vary the wineries visited from day to day, including in the tour some of the larger vineyards along with some of the smaller family owned operations. It is not unusual for us to find the actual winemakers working at the cellar door at the smaller wineries and this gives our guests the opportunity to ask any questions they may have about the wine making process.
Grapevine Getaways will take you to a selection of the following wineries...

All Saints Estate, the grandest of the Rutherglen wineries, was built in 1864. The original castle and surrounding grounds combined with the elm tree drive provide the perfect setting to sample their array of award winning wines.
Cofield Wines is one of the more recent additions to the Rutherglen wineries, and the Cofield family welcome all visitors with a smile and a yarn, as well as their renowned range of sparkling wines of course!

Mount Prior is another of the majestic old wineries of the region. The cellars located on the slope below 'The House' at Mount Prior, where fine dining is an every day occurrence. Great views can be had from the tasting area of the underground cellars.

Gehrig's Estate is the longest continually operating vineyard in Victoria, having commenced operations in 1858. Today it still operates in the original buildings and combines its fine wines with fabulous food which is served in the 'Courtyard Restaurant'. This family operated winery is always worth a visit.
Morris Wines are one of the best known of the Rutherglen Wineries, and their range of fortified wines is something to behold. Their tasting area sets the mood with the old oak barrels that house the precious liquids surrounding the cellar door.

Campbell's Winery is another of the old wineries of Rutherglen. For four generations they have built a reputation for 'big' reds such as the Barkly Durif and classic fortifieds like The Rutherglen Muscat. Both styles are unique to the Rutherglen area, and would be a great addition to any cellar.
Buller's 'Calliope' Vineyard boasts a rustic tasting area with a superb range of wines that draw on fruit from their three different vineyards. A gourmet range of produce that is sure to tantalise the taste buds is also available and there is a native bird park for guests' enjoyment.
Pfeiffer Wines is situated in the idyllic setting on the banks of the Sunday Creek, an anabranch of the Murray. The centaury old winery cellars provide wonderful ambience and aroma for your complementary wine tasting. Picnics hampers are available with prior notice to enjoy amidst the beautiful ground / natural Australian bush setting. Try Pfeiffers speciality Gamay.
Stanton & Killeen Wines are fine exponents of Rutherglen's famous fortified wines, guests to the winery will be treated to some of the best vintage ports in the region.
